Kettering

As the winning entry of an invited competition run by Kettering Borough Council in 2005, this mixed tenure scheme of 18 houses and flats establishes design and sustainability benchmarks for the district.

Sustainable features include green roofs, rainwater recycling, solar panels and geothermal energy. Dwellings include sunspaces and are oriented to maximise solar gain. The timber comes from sustainable sources and the bricks are from local suppliers which reduces transportation emissions. This scheme achieves an EcoHomes ‘excellent’ rating and is a ‘demonstration project’ for the Housing Corporation.
