The Greenway

HOUNSLOW

The aim of the multi award winning zero carbon housing development has been to create high quality contemporary homes on a contaminated, blighted and environmentally challenging brownfield site.

Contaminated by its former petrol filling station use and subject to a harsh noise environment from the busy Staines Road and the nearby flightpath into London’s Heathrow Airport, all of the houses and apartments are provided with glazed sunspaces to provide private amenity space as well as acoustic protection.

The homes are arranged around a communal courtyard garden that provides play for under 5’s with good surveillance whilst allotments offer residents the opportunity to grow their own food.

The Greenway is one of the first small-scale developments to be built to zero carbon standards and is also one of the first to meet the requirements of the London Housing Design Guide.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, praised the Greenway as a “fantastic project which combines the highest environmental standards with truly innovative design. With decent sized, energy efficient homes, The Greenway boasts precisely the qualities I want to see in housing developments right across the capital.”

The project is being monitored for two years to see how the buildings perform to help inform future developments.
