Hayes Road

This large project in Devon creates a sustainable community of 123 homes for the elderly. Four main elements, an Extra Care core block, two apartment blocks and a cluster of bungalows are arranged around a central ‘village green’ and gardens.

Changes of level across the site are exploited. Dramatic views across the town and over the sea can be enjoyed from the double-height communal lounge, restaurant and terrace of the Extra Care block and many of the apartments.

Distinctive curved elements, inspired by the English Riviera location, are combined with traditional forms and materials to create an architecture respectful to its context.
