Airey Houses Redevelopment

Airey Houses redevelopment in South Cambridgeshire replaces the council’s existing stock of 1950’s ‘pre-fab’ houses with 140 new dwellings, distributed over 4 village sites in Elsworth, Sawston, Girton and Coton.

Efficiency in design was achieved by developing five generic house typologies that are utilised throughout all four sites. Claddings were selected to relate to the vernacular of each village and the savings generated, in design terms, were reinvested in the quality of the materials specified.

At Sawton or ‘The Dales’ as it is now known was shortlisted for the National Home Ownership Awards 2008 in the ‘Best Stand Alone Development’ category.
